NASCAR DFS SEASON IS HERE!!!
Hey everyone, I hope you had a good offseason and that you are just as excited to get the 2024 Racing DFS Season started as I am.
Full disclosure, this is newsletter is going to be one big infomercial for DailyFanRacing and promoting what we have going on. With that said, let’s get to it.
The 2024 NASCAR Season starts with a ton of action from Daytona. We will have 5 slates in the first 4 days of the year starting with the Daytona Duel race and ending with the Daytona 500!! That means we are less than a week away from $1 MILLION to first for the Daytona 500. The F1 season will kick off towards the end of February with testing and the first race of the year being March 2nd! At 24 races, this will be the longest F1 schedule ever which means the season starts earlier and ends later than ever before. Tons of racing action this year.
There will be 120 DFS racing slates in 2024. Tons of racing means tons of content and of course we will have every single race completely covered at DailyFanRacing.com. We will once again be partnered with The Solver Optimizer and all of our racing projections will be made available to our subs. The Solver is an optional additional purchase that can be made through their website. Doing so using our DFR link is a HUGE help to us, so if you are interested please be sure to click here: TheSolverDFR
There is a packed weekend full of racing on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway and life is finally back to normal. Here’s the schedule for on-track activities:
Thursday, 2/15 - Daytona Duel Races 7:00pm ET
Friday, 2/16 - Craftsman Truck Series Race 7:30pm ET
Saturday, 2/18 - Xfinity Series Race 5:00pm ET
Sunday, 2/19 - Cup Series Race 2:30pm ET
Drivers to watch this weekend
Cup Series - Brad Keselowski:
Keselowski is still the best superspeedway racer in my opinion. His ability to constantly end up in the lead and to dominate sections of these races hasn’t changed in over a decade. This ability to still dominate a race was shown in his Daytona races last year. In the 2023 Daytona 500, Keselowski led a race high 42 laps, had the 2nd highest average running position, and won a stage. Of course, the unpredictable chaos that is Daytona led to him being involved in a crash and finishing 22nd.
He followed that up by finishing 2nd in the second race of the year at Daytona while pushing his teammate Chris Buescher to the win. There are few drivers who offer elite, race dominating upside on this style of track and Keselowski more than just about anyone.
Xfinity Series - Jeb Burton
From a statistical point of view, Jeb has been really good on superspeedways. For starters, he has two career wins, both at Talladega. He was also able to deliver 4th place finishes in both Daytona races in 2021, and had solid finishes of 11th and 12th in the two races here last year. Overall, a really good track record.
However, his biggest impact could come in the form of who makes this race. Because Jeb won the Talladega race last year, he has a past winners provisional that he can rely on. As a result, his team moved around owners points to lock in the 3rd car that Jordan Anderson will drive in this race. The #27 owners points from last year are now with the car Jordan Anderson will be driving. If qualifying is rained out (which is unfortunately a possibility), not only will Jeb make the race using this provisional, but he will start at the very back of the field. Huge place differential potential if this happens. Even if it doesn’t, Jeb has proven to be on of the best on this track type and has strong upside either way.
Truck Series - The backmarkers
#StackTheBack is a bit overused in the NASCAR DFS world but when it comes to Truckin’ at Daytona, it works pretty well. Last year was a tame race in which 9 drivers finished 5+ laps behind the field. This still saw Canadian Jason White start 36th and finish 21st and Josh Reaume start 34th and finish 19th. Solid DFS scores for some backmarkers.
The race before that had 13 DNFs and top contenders Nemechek and Chandler Smith finishing off the lead lap due to issues. 2021 saw 11 DNFs and FOUR top tier teams finish 3+ laps down due to incidents. 2020 also saw double digit DNFs and Natalie Decker finished 5th… But nothing can be worse than 2019 when we saw 23 DNFs… Yes, 23. As in Michael Jordan number of DNFs. Only 9 trucks finished the race and Angela Ruch was 8th while Josh Reaume showed up again finishing 6th.
That Reaume popping up twice part is the key here. The drivers starting 30th on back in sub par equipment aren’t even attempting to race with the big teams. They simply ride around and avoid carnage. This allows them to gain a significant amount of place differential points through attrition. We will want to pay close attention to this group yet again.
